There should be more than
traditional play equipment

After selling solely traditional play equipment, in 2006 I started to consider a few fundamental questions concerning the sports and playground market, and those it ultimately serves; the children. I asked myself: Why are kids these days so engrossed by TV, mobile phones and the internet? Why do they no longer seem fully satisfied by playing outdoors freely – like I used to be when I was young?

I quickly realized, it wasn’t just the children…it was the entire world that was changing. Today, 10 years later, we are at a point where smart phones, videogames, and tablets are no longer a luxury…but the norm. Has the world been changing so fast? Or have we just fallen behind the times? Whether we like it or not, children these days have entertainment expectations that you and I could never have dreamt of in our childhoods.

Yes we did it!

Today, I am incredibly proud to be able to say that we have succeeded in developing 5 high tech interactive play concepts, that meet the demands of today’s world. The concepts have so far been sold in a great variety of countries, and we have quickly become the global market leading company for interactive outdoor play equipment; and we are only getting started!

The secret

The secret to our success is our company culture. We are a group of friends – but made up of professionals. This attracts ambitious new talent with an entrepreneurial spirit. I really want to grow this group of friends internationally, with partners who share our values and ambition to realize innovative playground solutions that inspire our new generations of kids, teens and hopefully the rest of us too.

The story behind our
company name Yalp

When I was looking for a new company name with our advertising agency we came up with quite a lot possible names, but all where too long, too complicated or too serious.

Awards

Yalp has won quite a number of
national and international awards over the years. Perhaps the most prestigious being the 2014 Reddot Design Award.

Research &
Development

Yalp has its own full scaled R&D
department. All of the five interactive play sets shown on this website are developed by Yalp from scratch. This also includes the electronics and software.

A new way to play!

The name YALP is “PLAY” in reverse. We develop and distribute state of the art, innovative play sets and sports equipment. As such, we deliver ‘a new way to play’. With play solutions that fit today’s times. For young and old. Think an outdoor DJ-booth for teenagers, but also an audio-interactive arch called the Yalp Sona – including a version especially made for Seniors.

“A new way to play” gives us direction and motivation to remain innovative, and always search for the core appeals behind the demand.

Our Secret

An authentic company culture

Over the last 15 years, Yalp has seen great success and has experienced a wonderful growth – despite the global economic downturns along the way. By now, Yalp has become a market leading, internationally operating company with over 40 employees. And we are only getting started. The secret to our success is our company culture.

We are a group of friends – but made up of professionals. This attracts ambitious new talent with an entrepreneurial spirit. Proud and helpful. Self-critical, forward thinking, friendly, and customer service oriented.

The first to realise Interactive play

A new way to play. This reflects our belief in the way people play in today’s world; which also reveals some of the challenges we live with. We live in a world which is constantly changing, and is becoming increasingly digitalised. Active outdoor play as we used to know it, is an increasingly rare phenomenon. With our interactive products, we are meeting these challenges, and hereby merge “the best of two worlds” together.

The World’s first interactive play set was launched by Yalp in 2006. Meanwhile, interactives such as the Yalp Sona have been placed in over 200 locations worldwide, and have won a great deal of awards.

“Our slogan “a new way to play” reflects our solution towards today’s challenges, in a fast changing world with increased digitalisation. With our interactive products, we are meeting the demands of this new reality, while ensuring the benefits of outdoor play. As such, we are merging the best of both worlds into one.”

Our product designers

Rob Tuitert and Thomas Hartong are the Yalp product designers, and creators of the entire interactive play product line. Both studied industrial design at Delft Technological University (TU Delft) in The Netherlands.

Rob graduated in 2007 with the Sona design, and Thomas in 2009 with the Sutu design. Together they have developed the interactive sports court Toro, the educational activity zone Memo, and won the Red Dot Design Award with their outdoor DJ table Fono.

They share a great passion for constant innovation within the playground industry, and are not done for a long time: in the upcoming years they hope to continue with the development of challenging and ground breaking play concepts.

KITT-Engineering has been our highy valued partner since the inception of our interactive products, in 2006. In conjuncture with the Yalp R&D department, they continue to help develop the unique hardware components and software in each and every of our Yalp interactive play sets.
